Prelude  “He Hideth My Soul”

Call to Worship

     This is the day that the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it!  Come together as Christ’s people with wonder and praise.  We are called to serve and called to reach out.  We are the light of the world.  Let your light shine!  May God fill us with compassion as we worship.

Hymn Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;

Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, Opening to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, Drive the dark of doubt away;

Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day.

Mortals, join the happy chorus Which the morning stars began;

Father love is reigning o'er us, Brother love binds man to man.

Ever singing, march we onward, Victors in the midst of strife.

Joyful music leads us sunward In the triumph song of life.

Prayer of Confession

     Merciful God, we admit that we get discouraged.  We underestimate your light within us.  Forgive us when we turn away from the needs of others.  Help us to reach out in faith and to be generous.  Empower us to be your beacon of light in a troubled world, through Christ, Amen.

(Silent Confession)

Assurance of Pardon

Rejoice and be glad!  Our God is full of mercy, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.  Through Jesus Christ we are forgiven.  Dare to believe in the gift of a new beginning and be at peace.

Prayer for Illumination

God of Mercy, you promised never to break your covenant with us.  In the midst of the multitude of words in our daily lives, speak your eternal word to us, that we may respond to your gracious promises with faithfulness, service, and love.  Living God, help us to hear your words that we may truly understand, that, understanding, we may believe.  And believing we may follow your way in all faithfulness seeking your honor and glory in all that we do. Amen

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances: for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Sermon: “Feeling the Gratitude”  Bonnie Brandeberry

Affirmation of Faith:        The Apostles’ Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  Amen.

Hymn         “Count Your Blessings”

When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings, name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

Count your blessings, see what God hath done;

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.

So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged, God is over all;

Count your many blessings, angels will attend,

Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

Count your blessings, see what God hath done;

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
